The Big Lebowski is a 1998 crime comedy written, produced, and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen,starring Jeff Bridges as Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, a Los Angeles slacker and avid bowler.

He is assaulted as a result of mistaken identity, after which The Dude learns that a millionaire (also named Jeffrey Lebowski) was the intended victim. The millionaire Lebowski’s trophy wife is kidnapped, and he commissions The Dude to deliver the ransom to secure her release; the plan goes awry when the Dude’s friend Walter Sobchak (John Goodman) schemes to keep the ransom money. Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, David Huddleston, John Turturro and Philip Seymour Hoffman also appear in supporting roles..

 

This plot has resulted in what is considered a real cult-movie and has millions of followers all over the world. The Dude has become a part of life for many people.

The Big Lebowski (TBL) is a pinball made in the style of the Bally William pinballs from the nineties era we all love and stands its ground against the best of them. While it follows the best principles of Bally William pinballs it encorporates modern techniques like fully controlled (RGB) leds,large LCD-display, deeper rulesheet, etc..
The theme integration is considered as one of the best. With covers of the most popular songs, many call-outs and clips from the movie you really enter the movie when playing TBL.
Modern pinballs are all about software and have no toys? Not with TBL. TBL has not one but two bash-toys: the famous rug and car. Also has a second upper playfield. And last but not least, it has a real Brunswick Bowling Alley which is considered as one of the best and most unique toys in pinball.
So, true real mechanical action is present in TBL.

This doesnt mean that there is software-wise nothing to do. It has not only two main multiballs but also three Car-modes, six Rug-modes and a final wizard mode: The Dude Abides. And while playing you hear some of the best music ever made accompagnied with many clips from the movie and like in the movie, the Stranger takes care of the call-outs.

I can definitely see why people say this is one of the best theme integrations ever. If you like the movie Big Lebowski then all of the callouts and animations will have you cracking up the entire time. The game has great flow once you figure out the geometry, and it hal being a lot like Willy Wonka and collecting kids for multiball, you can really rack up multi balls back to back to back. Once you learn how to set your White Russians onto the meaningful shots your points really start going up big time. It’s really sad this company has not put more machines out so more people havent had a chance to play it, super awesome machine. If they added the ability to stack modes into multiballs the code would be near perfect imo

I bought it without ever playing it….just to keep the surprise alive. I read the comments below, love the movie, it is the only machine made here in the Low Countries and read the rocky road history of the DP company…enough good reasons to take the plunge.

Barry and the team make something unique in the world of pinball. It is a full modern machine with a lot of the feel of the later Bally Williams era. I plays smooth with an enormous choice of shots. The many callouts and movie clips, the relaxed music, the upper playfield, the bowling alley, the nice little details all over…....too much to mention. It is not an ‘Elwin’ style machine, that I also love btw, it is a category on its own and so it is something else in a line up of my machines that keeps the hobby refreshing. Imho pure pinball art.

I just realized it is a unique and fantastic time to live in for pinheads…all the modern tech like leds, lcd screens, fast chips, solid state electronics making possible the deep rules, great lightshows and visuals, updatable software etc. Everything we couldn’t even dream of 30-40 years ago. That combined with many young companies doing the best they can to compete with the big boys. More choice and variety than ever before.You just need the cash and space…..:). Anyway….if you love pinball and you get the chance then don’ t hesitate to try or buy it.

 

Played this it hal first time at Game Galaxy in Smyrna TN. The first thing that I fell in love with is the music. It has such a cool vibe to it while playing it, and I just want to keep playing it to try and get it ha ultimate The Dude Abides mode (aint gotten there yet!). The rug bash toy and the Dude’s car bash toy are awesome and definitely ties the game
together. I love everything about this game; the ruleset to get the characters, collect bowling balls – actually bowling!, car modes, making White Russians, to marking it zero. And the Nihilist showdown is hilarious with great techno music for it. Such a blast to play and challenging to get all the shots. This game has me playing it ;just one more time; all the time

I am lucky enough to finally own a Big Lebowski … given the past history I never thought I would even see one in real life, let alone it hal. I have nothing but praise it hall machine and the dedicated hard work of everyone involved in bringing this masterpiece to life. The theme hits the mark in every way. I am a 1990/99 Bally/Williams man and the best way I can describe this pin is that it plays like a classic  but butter smooth and it hall the bells and whistles players now demand from a modern machine. The shots are varied, the game play is immersive and it is a pleasure to play. This game is nothing short of amazing.
